Insomnia Trial 1 (2018)

Insomnia

I think that it is really important to provide if at all possible scientific backing for the treatments done as acupuncturists.

While some research has been done to date, I wanted to add my own research which is a multiple case study.

Results from my Acupuncture for Insomnia trial 1.
In brief: 10 people completed this 5 week trial in mid November 2018.
There was generally a good result of improvement of an increase in both hours slept and reduction of number of wakings. This generally resulted in improved sense of vitality and mood/ sense of wellbeing. Detailed figures were as follows:
Average baseline figures at start of trial (taken at first appointment): Average of 4.8 hours sleep and 2.7 wakings per night. After 4 treatments taken this number changed positively to average of 6.2 hours sleep and 1.2 wakings.

This was a 30% increase in sleep hours per night and a 56% decrease in the wakings per night. Of the 10 participants one person did not significantly benefit from the trial but the other nine experienced a significant improvement.

Points used were the same for every treatment:

Ht 3, Kid 6,
Ht 7, Sp 6,
Anmian

This protocol was suggested by Amos Ziv at the 2018 BAcC conference. Thank you Amos!

I am about to start a new round of clinical trials with a different treatment approach this spring to form “trial 2”
